Commercial Solicitor

Permanent, but open to part-time and job-share

Up to £80,000 + Bonus + Pension + BUPA + ShareSave + 6.6 weeks holiday + Hybrid Working (3 days per week in the office)

Southampton, Store Support Office, with Occasional travel to London Paddington

To manage legal risk by supporting B&Q with commercial contract advice, negotiation and drafting; provision of commercial, regulatory, competition law, data protection and litigation legal advice; managing disputes; managing IP portfolio and management of external counsel.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting all arms of the business with customer focussed, commercial legal advice in a pragmatic and simple manner;
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts;
  • Assessing and advising upon the GDPR implications and requirements of a wide range of proposed services and projects;
  • Supporting the management of B&Q’s Trade Mark and Domain Name portfolio;
  • Contributing to continuous improvement/efficiency work including drafting standard template terms and conditions and providing associated training to the business;
  • Advising on a wide range of issues including commercial disputes, structure of relationships, and advertising and marketing activities;
  • Building relationships with the business;
  • Managing external counsel including tendering work, agreeing and monitoring budgets, and overseeing work;
  • Providing sound internal Governance by advising on delegated authorities and contributing to Board reports, internal audit and other reports;
  • Working collaboratively - within Kingfisher and cross functionally in B&Q.

Required skills & experience

  • Proven PQE experience obtained in private practice/in-house;
  • Broad legal knowledge with sound experience in commercial, ideally in a retail or similar environment;
  • Strong technical skills and ability to give clear and pragmatic advice;
  • Confident in knowledge of and advising in relation to GDPR
  • Curious and capable of working in a fast paced and changing environment;
  • Customer focused; understands the needs of internal and external customers,
  • Responds promptly and ensures the customer is at the forefront of their thinking.

Qualified Solicitor or Barrister registered to practice in the UK. Ideally at least 5 years’ PQE.
