B&Q is the UK’s leading home improvement and garden retailer. We’ve been helping customers create good homes since 1969. The way customers live, shop and use their homes may have changed over the past five decades, but they still need homes that work for every member of their household; homes that use space brilliantly, provide a balance of comfort and practicality, and are easy to maintain and improve so they look and feel great. And we’re still here for them – offering more bright thinking, big ideas, sustainable solutions and expert advice than ever.
Our business & values
At B&Q we help make good homes happen by bringing together inspiring project ideas, expert support and clever solutions. We offer great prices across 40,000 products in our 295 stores and on diy.com, and our 27,000 colleagues are respected nationwide for their knowledge and the quality of their advice. They’re the beating heart of B&Q, and their iconic orange aprons are worn with pride.
Our famously orange brand is also award-winningly green. We’re committed to making sure our business is as sustainable as possible, and to helping our customers make planet-friendly choices in their own homes.
Our parent company, Kingfisher plc, is an international home improvement company with 1,211 stores in 10 countries across Europe, Russia and Turkey. 77,000 colleagues work for Kingfisher. And nearly six million customers shop with our group, in store and online, every week.
B&Q has been proudly serving customers since 1969, when two men walked on the moon, and two men called Richard Block and David Quayle opened their first store in Southampton.
25% of the UK’s carbon emissions come from our homes, and the combined space of all our gardens is greater than that in all our national parks. These two stats help to show why we’re so serious about sustainability. In fact, it’s there right through our business, and has been for years.
B&Q in the community
We want to be part of a community that helps millions more people improve their homes, so we get involved in all kinds of projects and partnerships that make a difference. Our primary partnership with Shelter is a great example of this, but there are many more.
Inclusion & Wellbeing
One of the things that makes us a good home for everyone is our commitment to treating everyone fairly and with respect. It’s been part of our business right from the start, and it’s still a big part of who we are today.
