Key responsibilities
In March 2022, and as part of our ecommerce strategy, we became the first UK home improvement retailer to launch an online marketplace. This means we're now integrating product ranges from verified third-party sellers into diy.com and the B&Q app – expanding our existing category ranges and adding new ones. Ultimately, giving our customers more choice and greater convenience to help them improve their homes to make life better.
Reporting to the Head of Business Development - Marketplace, you will own the acquisition and onboarding of third-party Merchants across key product categories on B&Q marketplace. You will be responsible for identifying and building relationships with key individuals and decision-makers both on the Merchant side and within B&Q/Kingfisher to identify & capitalise on marketplace growth opportunities (outbound and inbound selling), as well as executing on marketplace commercial strategy. You will also be responsible for setting up Merchant accounts, understanding Merchant requirements, overseeing migration of their product catalogue, and training them to become fully operational on the marketplace. You will interact with Merchant Onboarding and Merchant Operations teams and act as a consulting expert to speed up Merchant’s migration to B&Q marketplace, providing a seamless onboarding experience.
Key responsibilities:
Acquisition
- Deliver Merchant recruitment goals and strategy for assigned categories and territories.
- Identify, prioritise and Hunt: detect the right prospect and the right contact who will become a top partner for B&Q
- Pitch: Present and convince about the opportunity to work with B&Q by phone and face-to-face on occasion
- Deal: You will negotiate and secure the best business conditions to ensure the highest chance to turn the partnership into success
- Be responsible for setting up Merchant accounts, understanding Merchant requirements, overseeing migration of their product catalogue, and training them to become fully operational on the marketplace
General
- Deep dive into business issues and areas of opportunity impacting Merchant recruitment and onboarding. experience and business performance; identify root causes and innovative solutions to address any recruitment issues.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the e-commerce industry and competitive environment including knowledge of competitive product offerings and markets.
- Influence internal and external stakeholders to drive change and improve Merchant experience across the lifecycle of selling on B&Q marketplace.
Required skills & experience
- You are a “hunter”: You love pitching and negotiating with business owners and senior leadership
- You have experience in relationship management and negotiation skills in e-commerce
- Ability to interact at CEO/CFO etc. level with small-to-medium local and multinational companies
- Utmost attention to detail and desire to get hands dirty
- Persistent, you never give up!
