Transforming the
Marketplace
Our ecommerce platform diy.com was already one of the UK’s biggest retail sites, with over 24 million visitors per month from our loyal customer base.
Then in March 2022 we launched the marketplace on the site and our B&Q app. Marketplace is B&Qs fastest growing channel and helping give millions more choice to create the homes and lifestyles they chose and build up the businesses they are so proud of.
We’ve come very far, very fast, launching the marketplace in partnership with Mirakl, through their leading SAAS platform and expanding at pace.
But our ambitions are large, and there is much still to be done on our tech stack and beyond, as we expand our vendor list, our brand offering, our categories, our team and our horizons. We’re looking to transform the way marketplaces operate – leading from the front in an exploding market.
We are a marketplace with a difference – being part of a trusted brand with a 50-year history and a wide network of over 300 stores. That means customers trust us to vet our vendors carefully.
We aim to become the one stop shop for everything home improvement related, from furniture and showers to wallpaper – as well as moving into new categories our stores don’t cover – like electrical goods.
The Story

B&Q is the leading home improvement and garden-living retailer in the UK. Since our establishment in 1969, we’ve opened over 300 stores up and down the country, and provided an integrated shopping experience with our online store – DIY.com.
March 2022 saw the launch of B&Q Marketplace; created to expand the choice of products we have on offer at DIY.com.
We know customers are changing how they shop. They’re looking for easier ways to find everything they need, leading them to migrate to the more convenient online shopping. Creating B&Q Marketplace was a natural step for us towards improving shopping experiences for our customers. It enables them to choose from an even wider range of products, all in one place.
Seamlessly integrated as an extension to DIY.com, B&Q Marketplace bolsters the site to provide consumers with a one stop shop for home improvements spanning hundreds of sellers, but coming directly from a brand they know and trust. B&Q Marketplace uniquely focuses on home improvement products only, carefully selected by B&Q experts from pre-vetted third-party sellers. In just two years, we now have over 750 third-party sellers.
Since its launch, B&Q Marketplace has continued to scale at pace and perform above expectations. In Q3 2023, Marketplace reached an overall e-commerce sales participation of 35%, and contributed to the 31.8% YOY increase in B&Q’s total e-commerce sales. Safe to say we hit the nail on the head with this one.
Our roles
Account Manager:
As an Account Manager for Marketplace, you’ll identify growth opportunities and cultivate relationships with sellers. You’ll work closely with various teams and departments across B&Q, ensuring sellers can run their businesses smoothly and effectively on our platform. You’ll be responsible for overseeing product assortment and availability, gaining insights and driving opportunities. You’ll need to be a confident communicator and should thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment.
Business Development Manager:
Our Marketplace Business Development Managers lead recruitment and onboarding of third-party Merchants across key product categories. In this role, you’ll be responsible for building relationships, both on the Merchant side and within B&Q/Kingfisher, pitching to Merchants and convincing them of the opportunities at B&Q. You’ll identify and capitalise on growth opportunities, whilst executing our Marketplace commercial strategy. You’ll set up merchant accounts, understand their requirements, oversee migration of their product catalogue and train them to become fully operational on B&Q Marketplace.
Merchant Support Associate:
As a Merchant Support Associate for Marketplace, you’ll act as the primary interface between B&Q and our business partners. You’ll be responsible for providing timely and accurate operational support to Merchants selling on Marketplace alongside our Merchant Support team. You should be driven by an ambition to consistently deliver an outstanding experience to our business partners, and have a clear understanding and knowledge of B&Q and Marketplace operations. You must communicate confidently, and lead with a can-do, problem-solving attitude.
